Yesterday, we got the chance to go to Macedonia. Our leaders had planned a whole day trip to three different locations around Lake Ohrid.
The first stop we made was in Struga, Macedonia. We walked around the town and found little stands selling jewelry and other souvenirs. Before heading back to the bus, we agreed we needed to find coffee. The cutest ice cream and coffee shop was on the way back. We stopped and had cappuccinos and an amazing pistachio dessert.
After our couple of hours in Struga, we went to Ohrid. I was on the hunt for postcards and found the cutest ones at an art gallery in the strip of stores by the water. Coffee was the next thing I needed to find. A coffee shop right on the water was the perfect spot to get a macchiato.
When we were done there, we started walking up the streets to see a castle we had been told about. On our way there, we came across a beautiful church with gorgeous paintings all over the walls and ceiling. We spent some time there looking at the paintings and reading about the history of the church.
After that, we went up to the castle, looking over all the shops we had just been sitting at, now looking so small. The water looked beautiful. Three hours later, we were back on the bus heading to a monastery.
When we got there, we walked around looking at all the souvenirs and slowly made our way to the monastery. The architecture and scenery were beautiful. I sat by the water taking it all in. Before we left, I needed to get one last cappuccino for the ride to dinner.
For dinner, we crossed back into Albania and went to Pogradec. Getting a good pizza was a great way to end an amazing day.
The trip was a nice way to get out and do something fun all together. I look forward to more day trips in the future!
